In Loving Memory of Monte Slater Hounchell 

August 10, 1938 – May 1, 2025

Monte Slater Hounchell, age 86, of London, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in his home on May 1, 2025. A beloved father, grandfather, teacher, and man of faith, Monte’s life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering devotion.Born on August 10, 1938, in Beech Creek, Kentucky, 

Monte grew up in Hamilton, Ohio, where his deep-rooted values and dedication to family began to take shape. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Lola Roberts. Together they built a beautiful life and shared 24 cherished years of marriage until her passing in 1984.Monte was a proud father to two daughters: Monica Sawdy (with husband Robert) and Avril Levy (with husband Eric). Monte also thought of Teresa Kennedy McReynolds as an honorary daughter. His grandchildren, Dash Redding and Brecken Faith, were his joy, and he delighted in every moment spent with them. 

Monte was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lola Roberts Hounchell, his parents Harvey and Marie Hounchell and his siblings Lola, Bob, Bill, and Crockett. 

A devoted teacher for over 39 years, Monte inspired countless students with not only knowledge but kindness, integrity, humor and faith. His passion for education was rivaled only by his love of gardening—a skill he pursued with patience, care, and joy. Above all, Monte was a follower of Jesus Christ (as evidenced by his favorite hat). His faith was the cornerstone of his life and evident in his humility, generosity, and compassion for others.

Monte’s legacy is one of love—love for his family, his students, his garden, and his Savior. He leaves behind a life fully lived and deeply felt, and he will be missed beyond measure.Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9th at 6:00 PM at Rominger Funeral Home. A celebration of Monte’s life will take place on Saturday, May 10th at 11:00 AM at Manchester Pentecostal Church.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Manchester Pentecostal Church.
