She moved to Dayton Ohio in 1951 where she met a back home acquaintance, her husband, Jerry of now 73 years. They moved to Alabama in 1958 with their two sons and made it there forever home. Irene never forgot where she came from or the values in work ethics that was instilled in her by her parents as the saying goes, you can take the girl off the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the girl. She loved planting in the soil and tending to her animals. There was always a rescue dog or cat along with horses, but her favorite of all was her chickens who supplied eggs to the entire family in surrounding neighborhood. One of her favorite days of the year was the first Saturday in May. The Kentucky Derby. She had the pleasure to attend twice, but the rest she would watch from home start to finish. Irene loved her family, especially her grandchildren great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren. For the past 51 years her basement has been set up as a dedicated child zone.

She was a dedicated member of White Springs Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved to read her Bible and daily devotional.
