George Gambrell

George Edward Gambrell, age 76, departed this life in Lexington, Kentucky at Richmond Place Senior Living on Friday July 11, 2025. He was born on November 16, 1948, to the union of Floyd Earl and Daisy Wolfe Gambrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Daisy Gambrell and sisters: Carol Abner, Clara Minton and JoAnn Mays.

George leaves to celebrate his life his wife of 47 years, Mary Nancy Cottongim Gambrell, his two sons, Dallas George Lester Gambrell (Ashley) and Joshua Alexander Wolfe Gambrell (Stacia) and his brother, Pat and wife Linda. Sons of Dallas Gambrell: Dallas Gambrell II, Francis Gambrell, Irenaeus Gambrell and daughter Magadeline Gambrell. Sons of Joshua Gambrell: Wyatt Gambrell and James Gambrell.

George was a retired lunch supervisor for the Clay County Board of Education.

George’s hobbies included cooking, especially the home made cheesecakes and reading the John Grisham novels. He enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music by Mozart. He loved the Greenbriar Presbyterian Church. He really liked singing in the church choir.

A personal funeral will take place at the chapel of Rominger Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. with the burial of the urn at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
